The Perfect Fall Playlist
BY DIKSHA MHATRE '26
As the leaves turn fiery shades of red and gold and a crisp breeze rustles through the trees, autumn brings an array of sensory delights that transform everyday life into a cozy, pumpkin-spiced euphoria. It's time for chunky sweaters, indulgent sips of pumpkin spice lattes, and the satisfying crunch of fallen leaves underfoot. While others may mourn the end of summer's heat, I eagerly anticipate those two precious weeks when the weather strikes the perfect balance between warm and cool, creating an inviting atmosphere for leisurely walks and bike rides. And as the demands of school, including PSATs and college applications, loom on the horizon, the melodies of autumn offer solace and respite. So, grab your favorite cardigan, a steaming cup of coffee, and enjoy :)
"Ladyfingers" by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass has a jazzy and smooth composition. This instrumental piece envelops the listener in warmth and contentment. This song will envelop you like a warm blanket, and it is the perfect way to style in for fall. It's the musical equivalent of sipping a steaming coffee while cocooned in a chunky orange sweater at a local Starbucks. While some may associate it more with summer, for me, it's a comforting and autumnal embrace because of the smooth saxophone and lazy beat. "September Song" by Agnes Obel, with its gentle piano melodies, has a calming effect on frayed nerves. This sweet and soothing sound becomes the soundtrack to contemplative autumn walks, where the crisp air and falling leaves provide the perfect backdrop. Listening to this on a walk or during a break from homework can be a great way to clear your head. As the amount of schoolwork increases for everyone, this song can be a great stress reliever, and help you step back from the hustle and bustle of fall. Mitski's "My Love Mine All Mine": I love Mitski's melancholic vocals and slightly jazzy undertones which perfectly capture the bittersweet essence of fall. You might have heard this song across all your social media platforms, but I promise that actually listening to it provides a different feeling than simply seeing it in a tik tok video would. It's the kind of song that pairs well with a cozy blanket and a cup of hot tea on a chilly night to gaze at the moon. Her lyrics are about the insignificance of the individual but the significance of their love (classic Mitski) with a deep and thoughtful message. For fellow Swifties, "Cardigan" by Taylor Swift is an obligatory inclusion in any fall playlist. It's a nostalgic journey through past love and heartbreak (classic Taylor:). It's officially cardigan weather, and Taylor's evocative lyrics and luscious piano melodies make this song an essential fall addition. "Dorothea" and "marjorie" and the rest of folklore and evermore also matches the vibe with the gentle acoustic guitar and cozy, "homey" feel. An honorable mention is "we fell in love in october" by girl in red which was a popular request from my Instagram poll. Most of the songs I chose incorporate a melancholic tone which connects to this fall aesthetic because autumn offers some respite as we prepare for the seasonal depression of winter. I hope you all enjoy the songs mentioned above and they help you deal with high school blues. XOXO, Playlist Girl Link to the playlist! |
