Getting tired of searching up synonyms on Google every time you write your English essays? It’s time to stop using thesaurus.com and expand your vocabulary! This list of underrated words is the perfect addition to the otherwise plain and predictable literary toolbox.
When looking at words, never underestimate the power of a fun adjective. One of the most underrated adjectives out there is “nonchalant.” Every cool, calm, and collected person fits the definition of this word. This term is not only incredibly fun to say out loud, but its three syllables can also spice up a plain sentence full of dull adjectives. It’s time to stop using words like “calm” or “peaceful”; instead, nonchalantly brighten up your writing! Another secret weapon of the literary world is the word “silhouette.” This noun made the list purely because it’s one of the prettiest words out there. Seeing this word written in cursive, or even just saying it, should help you realize its sophistication. The French origins of the word make this term full of expression and immediately paints a picture in readers' and writers' minds alike. If you want your writing to seem much more expensive, then this is definitely the word for you. For all my fellow Swifties out there, this one's for you. “Evermore” is simply one of the most overlooked words in the dictionary. This word, meaning always or forever, is a great way to improve your vocabulary. All of us have used “forever” about a billion different times in a billion different ways. Next time, try evermore instead. This adverb is the perfect way to introduce that idealistic fairytale mood into writing. My favorite and final word on this list has to be “nostalgia”. This noun just reminds everyone of good times. We’ve all had that feeling of nostalgia when we long to relive a past moment. When you are tired at 1 AM trying to cram in some last-minute essays, this word can get you through the hard stretch by reminding you of happy memories. Even though nostalgia is most often used to express good memories, it has several versatile uses. The word can be used in both a positive and negative connotation, meaning that there are endless possibilities when you write with it. From adverbs to adjectives, there are so many underrated words out there. I’ve only provided you with a few amazing terms, so venture into expanding your vocabulary and explore a whole new world of words! |
