Letter from the New EICs
BY JASMINE WU '22 & REBECCA ZHANG '22
Howdy friends,
It’s Jasmine and Rebecca here! Fun fact: the second we found out we would become the new EICs, Jasmine called me (Rebecca) and just absolutely cackled, and neither of us said anything comprehensible: we just cackled. And that’s how it’s like working with us! We share one (1) brain, but we try our best to bring the ~quirk~ into The Spectrum. All quirky things aside, we are excited to work with everyone as your new EICs! This year has been interesting to say the least, and like most, we are hoping for a more normal school year this fall. But while we are excited to (kindly and gently) chuck newspapers at your heads, we are also excited to continue our digital projects that the pandemic has inspired. From Bits to our podcast, Anushka and Michelle have guided us in embarking on new journeys this year that we hope to expand. Though we have all grown a little this year, we’ve also faced a lot of difficulties. From the rise in anti-Asian hate to multiple hate incidents in our own school, systemic racism feels closer than ever. Though discrimination has always daunted our halls, it is not easy to witness the repeated hate in such an obvious manner, so we are glad that some of you have found a voice through The Spectrum. We hope to continue providing a platform for the voices of AB. As we head into a new school year, we are very grateful for our amazing chief staff. We are always in awe of your passion for journalism, and we can’t wait to continue working with you. Special shout out to our retiring EICs! Anushka and Michelle have been amazing role models, and we will all miss them so much. Rest assured that their influence—in the form of spicy icebreakers and hot em dashes, of course—will forever persist in The Spectrum community. Love, Jasmine and Rebecca (aka Rezberry Jams) |
