Top 10 Pop Culture Moments of the 2010's
BY PRIYANKA CHIDAMBARAM '23
Well this has been quite a decade. From the feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West to the end of Game of Thrones, here are the most eventful moments of our childhood.
2009-2010: The decade-long feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West began after Kanye interrupted Taylor’s speech at the VMA’s. The start of a new decade seems to have laid the feud to rest though.
2011: The whole world watched as the first of Princess Diana’s sons, Prince William, married a mere commoner, Kate Middleton, in the Royal Wedding.
2012: The Avengers assembled for the first time, forming what would become a multi-billionaire franchise.
2013: Beyonce chose to lip sync “The Star Spangled Banner” during President Obama’s inauguration and caused quite an outrage.
2014: The Ice Bucket Challenge fascinated us all after celebrities (Dwayne Johnson, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, etc.) dumped ice cold water on each other and proceeded to donate to ALS research. The ALS Association made 115 million dollars that summer.
2015: We met Caitlyn Jenner, Kendall and Kylie’s mom, on the cover of Vanity Fair.
2016: Pokemon Go was all the rage and even had people falling off cliffs to capture pocket monsters.
2017: The Fyre Festival failed after people paid thousands for a VIP music experience on a private island. They came to find flooded tents, crappy sandwiches, and no music. Luckily, they offered refunds.
2018: Black Panther became the top grossing movie of the year, making 1.3 billion dollars in the box office.
2019: Game of Thrones came to an end after eight seasons, though it went out with a bang. It was nominated for 58 Emmys over the course of its run.
And that’s it folks. Feel free to sit back and feel old. Want something else to make you feel old? By the end of this decade, all of us currently at AB will be done with high school and college, and will be working in the real world. *Shudder*. But in all seriousness, toodles and good night.
