From a Valentine’s Day Veteran

To all my readers, 

The holiday season can be a lonely time for us singles, especially during Valentine’s Day. So, as your helpful literary bestie, I’ve come up with a list of things you can do to cope with the pain. 

1. Stock up on your comfort food and some sunglasses to block out the love-birds strolling down the hallways holding hands. Ben & Jerry's can never do any wrong here, and my personal favorites are Phish Food and Milk & Cookies. 
   
2. Don’t be the person that sends themselves flowers or valentines for the whole class to see. It’s not a good look, and you’ll just feel worse afterwards. Trust me. Lining up in the cafeteria with all the partners waiting to get their other-half a carnation, only for you to write your own name on the slip will sink you into a deeper depression. 
   
3. Join your local Lonely Hearts Club…i.e. rely on your other single friends to get you through this season. There are plenty of members that are looking for someone to lean on during this time. Maybe instead of finding a special someone, you make a friendly connection bonding over your tears!
   
4. Remember that Valentine’s day gifts are overrated anyways. Roses are rosy, until they wilt and decompose. I admit that chocolates are tasty, but the high mark up is not worth it.
